The Stress Factor
Well I got me a VCR and a home with a pool
And I got me a pickup truck like every company fool
And just when I think my life is goin' all right
Bad news comes a-callin' like a thief in the night

Well the cost of living is high and production is down
And talk of being laid off is goin' around
The boss thinks we all got it made in the shade
He says we're under-worked and we're overpaid Well I've tried to figure it out
But it don't make no sense to me
By the time you account for stress
I've been working for free

Who do they think they are
Causing my insecurity
By the time you account for stress
They should be working for me

Who needs it?
Who wants it?
You can't live with it
You can't live without it

Now I'm not hurtin' for reasons to walk on out
But I've got two kids at home I got to think about
And darlin' understands 'cause she's just that way
But I know she'll want that Love Boat cruise someday

{chorus}

Well it's too soon to retire and too late to change
And I can't afford to leave my home on the range
And it's too bad that I carry on this way
'Cause it's only two more days until payday

{chorus}

Just Let Me Live
Lord, when I die would you set me free
From all this responsibility
And would you pay all my bills
And put all my kids through school (law school)

And while you're at it, if you wouldn't mind
Would you straighten out the lies that I left behind
Would you settle my bets
And write off my bad debts

Well, if I’m asking for more than you wanna give
Then you might as well call it all off
And just let me live

Lord, if I go will you make me pay
For all the bad words that I've said today
And will you hold me to all those
Promises that I've made

And will you please forget, if it's not too late
The whole year of 1978
I was feelin' alone
And hurtin' for companionship (and lots of it)

{chorus}

When I die could you guarantee
That all my friends will remember me
For all of my good deeds
And say, "He was a good old boy"

Will you promise me Lord, that in the end
My wife won't marry my best friend
Then make me sit up there
And teach me to understand

{chorus}

Exceptions to the Rule
I think I'm in worse shape than you are
You're looking pretty fair
Maybe you've lost that schoolgirl figure
But I'm losin' hair

I guess as we grow old together
Those things are hard to see
I swear you must look right on through me

'Cause other couples fold up
Close down, and take it like a fool
And we keep on stayin' together
And that makes us exceptions to the rule

And whenever you start counting
The worse mistakes I've made
Don't you get lost in all the numbers
That you forgave

I guess as we grow old together
Those things just fade away
You must think I'm still okay

{chorus}

And when we're old folks
Living at the home
We'll still keep right on
Sittin' kinda close and holdin' hands

I know as we grow old together
And nearer to the end
You will still be
My best friend

{chorus}

Kids (Play)
Summertime
Sippin' on lemonade
Playin' cool in the willow shade
The girls want a clubhouse
The boys want their own club too

Kids believe they can do anything
They can touch the moon from a tire swing
They can build a roller coaster
They can all be operators too

The kids all say
The kids all say
Yes, we can
Yes, we can
The kids all say
The kids all say
Yes, we can do anything

Summertime
Living in paradise
And the swimming pool feels very nice
The girls are deep sea divers
The boys are captains of their crew

Kids believe they can do anything
Turn a piece of wire into a diamond ring
They can speak a foreign language
They can all be famous singers too

{chorus}

“When I get big I want to be a machine guy.”
“When I grow up, I want to be a teacher.”
“I wanna be a famous singer when I grow up.”
“I mostly would like to be a zoo doctor...
“and I wanna be a fisherman...
“and a librarian...
“and a......policeman.”

Leaving Me in June
I've been thinking lately
This is too good to be true
How'd a guy like me
Get a pretty girl like you

I know what's gonna happen
'Cause I've seen it all before
You're just a driftin' angel keeping score

You'll be leaving me in June
You'll be single in July
By August you'll have found yourself
Another lonesome guy

You say I may be speaking out too soon
But I believe you will be leaving me in June

I know what you're thinking
How could I know it all
When I haven't seen a gypsy
And I got no crystal ball

But I can see the future
'Cause I've seen it in my past
And now I'm learning how to face the facts

{chorus}

We've been happy lately
But that could always change
We never even argue
And that seems a little strange

Or maybe it's a warning
Like the calm before a storm
Or maybe Winter's past and now you're warm

{chorus}

Living Separately
You wanna be living separately
And I wanna do you right
So go ahead and sit home by the telephone
'Cause I'm goin' out tonight

I'm goin' out with the girls
And rockin' and rollin'
Might even stay out all night
'Cause you wanna be living separately
And I wanna do you right

This living apart was your idea
So don't put the blame on me
You wanted to do something different and new
So that's how it's gonna be

{chorus}

And if you change your mind
And you're feeling lonely
And you're wanting to hold me
Like you used to do

Well just remember, babe
I'm seeing things your way
So don't call me
And I won't call you

{chorus}
