Bad Dreams and Fantasies

Time on the Wall

Mrs. Porter's Having Tea

The Corner Cafe

Scented Candles

Sing a Song When I Die

Ocean

Liberated Girl

Rainfall

A Natural Disaster

Lady Running Loose

Bad Dreams and Fantasies
I took a journey without traveling a mile
Across the ocean to Fantasy Isle
Upon a clipper with a crew of one
I pulled my anchor up and followed the sun

From deep within the caverns of my mind
These painted visions were the least I could find
I bring these treasures from across the seas
Love songs, bad dreams, and fantasies

Bad dreams and fantasies
Haunting my memory
Over and over
They never grow older

Time on the Wall (Play)
I don't like to recall
All the times that I've fallen for money
I don't like to remember
The years that I've spent on the job

Eleanor knows that I couldn't stand the sight of her name
Belita and even Lordsmanor Way were the same
They never change

Maybe one day when I'm well on my way
On my journey of life
I'll be able to look at my past
With a laugh or a smile

Nothing is learned
Without feeling the burn of the flame
And nothing is worse
Than the feeling of being unchanged...There are no chains

Ooo, there's time on the wall
Mercy in the corner
Elegantly tall
Ooo, time on the wall
Fortune quaintly waiting in the hall

I keep telling myself
Me and my baby and Angela Sea
Will cover the world on the wings of my flying guitar

Nothing is learned
Without feeling the burn of the flame
And nothing is worse
Than the feeling of being in chains...There are no chains

{chorus}

Mrs. Porter's Having Tea
Mrs. Grey passed away on a sad and dismal day
All the people came to say, Poor Mrs. Grey
And after the funeral they all had cake and ice cream too
While poor old Mrs. Grey was turning blue

And it looks like there's nothing more to say
It looks like there's nothing more to say
It look's like another lousy day

Mrs. Porter's having tea with Mrs. A and Mrs. B
Mrs. Porter had to say, "Aren't you glad she passed away?"
Then they all started laughing but didn't have very much to say
When they turned around and saw old Mrs. Grey

{chorus}

Tommy Porter's leaving home. He calls his mommy on the phone
Says to her, "I'm going away on this sad and dismal day"
She said, "Tommy don't forget to take your hat and coat
Your toothbrush, toothpaste, and a bar of soap"

{chorus}

Little Tom had tired feet. He tripped and fell into the street
A motorcycle smashed his head, leaving Tommy surely dead
Then his mommy ran out said that it was God's will
"So bury Tommy and send me the bill"

{chorus}

The Corner Cafe
At the corner cafe we eat lunch every day
Off the same old plates
And the waitress there wears a hat in her hair
And her hair in a bun

And if I feel brave I might order the soup of the day
But I don't make it a habit because rumors have it
It's made up of rabbit
And old Mrs. Grey

And on Friday nights if the mood is just right
The young chicken farmer
Might play his guitar out of tune
But they like it that way
At the corner cafe

At the corner cafe we eat lunch every day
With slippery spoons
And the waitress is crazy and the cook is amazing
And the price is okay

And the lights in the cafe sign flicker
And the windows are stained
And the jukebox is broken and the cook is outspoken
And the place would go broke if it wasn't so strange

And on Friday nights if the mood is just right
The young chicken farmer
Might play his guitar out of tune

But they like it that way
At the corner cafe

Yes, they like it that way
At the corner cafe

Scented Candles
There's a trembling boy
Turning shades of white
From the frightening visions
In the dead of the night

In a daze he says
"You're as good as dead
It'll catch you when you're running
As fast as you can"

There is no telling what the night might bring
Go set you're scented candles burning

There's a cry of fear
Screaming through my ear
From the eminent presence
Of somebody near

In a daze she says
"We're as good as dead
It'll catch us when we'e running
As fast as we can"

{chorus}

Scented candles love to dance
In fact, they don't stop dancing
Flickering so fancy
They don't speak but they keep good company
Good company

Her flame is like a feather
Her fragrance like a dream
Her glow is like the morning
She don't speak but she keeps good company
Good company

{chorus}

Sing a Song When I Die
I don't want nobody to know
Cause I sure don't want to make it out a show
With ladies crying and making a scene
The children asking "What does it all mean?"
With every hour seeming like another day
I don't want it that way

Dead is nothing like live
But shouldn't be made sad by all that jive
They'll paint you up and lay you down
With colorful flowers and a beautiful gown
And when they're done
There's one hell of a price to be paid
I don't want it that way

And if you want they'll burn you up
Throw your ashes in the ocean
Not to mention all the pieces
They might want to save
I don't want it that way

When I go, I want to leave happy
All I'm asking, don't make it obscene
Let me here music and let me hear clapping
That's the way I want it to be
Yeah

Sing a song when I die
Serve the children all ice dream and pie
Hor d'ovours for the mom and the dad
Everyone laughing and nobody sad
Topped with music compliments of the band

Ocean
Taking a walk on the beach in the evening
And watching the sun sink down into the sea
So nice
After a day on the blistering sand
Our bodies are red but cooled by the ocean breeze
So nice

When the moon comes up over the mountains
It's big and it's bright
And it's such a sight to see
All for free
A star in the sky marks the end of the day
It's better than any show that I've paid to see
All for me
And you

Ocean, what did you give me
Peace of mind and colors in shades of love
Ocean, willing to share your life
With any who care enough
Ocean
I love you

Liberated Girl
So you wanna be a man
You've got a lot to learn, my friend
There's more to being a man
Than getting blisters on your hands
From playing tennis in the sun

So you wanna change the world
Liberated girl
Your frilly clothes and powdered noses
Just aren't your cup of tea any more

Ladies with no etiquette
Biting on your cigarettes
Tasting of another fruit
The nectar of the universe

Foul-mouthed and hairy-kneed
Remember what you used to be

From pierced ears and pink brassieres
To silver hard-hatted careers
Some folks even say
"Baby, you've come a long way"

Rainfall
Rainfall
None at all
From state line to City Hall
The dirty, ever-thirsty
People would give anything
For rainfall

Looks like the tap is dry
It's a fine time for long lines
Of dirty, ever-thirsty
People who would give anything
For rainfall

Rainfall

In Oakland the fishbowls are broken
In the forest the creek beds are choking
To the dry and dying vineyards on the hillsides
It looks like a clear case of genocide

Rainfall
None at all
From state line to City Hall
The dirty, ever-thirsty
People watch for any signs
Of rainfall

Rainfall

A Natural Disaster
The streets are all covered with ash
And the city's in pain
Just to think it could have been worse
If it weren't for the rain

The people are watching in panic and fear
The dead being carried away by the volunteers

How does it feel
To be a part of something true
Witnessing our history
Your best friends too

The whole town is wasted in more ways than one
A natural disaster and nowhere to run

You suddenly realize
You've lost everything you can lose
As you stand in the Red Cross station
Watching the news

The whole town is wasted in more ways than one
A natural disaster and nowhere to run

There's nothing left of the valley
Save for the day
Even the men at the capitol building are saying

"The whole town is wasted in more ways than one"
A natural disaster and nowhere to run

Lady Running Loose
Who could take a loving heart
And tear it apart
To destroy all the love inside
And be satisfied

And who could turn their back on someone
Dying of pain
From a broken love affair
In a cold wet rain

There's a lady running loose
Who could turn the world around
To a game where the beast is tame
And the lost is never found;

Who could laugh at misery
And never give
The gift of sympathy

This lady's day is every day
In every way
She's just another stray
No matter what you say

There's a lady running loose
Who could turn the world around
To a game where the beast is tame
And the lost is never found
